GENERAL OVERVIEW
In the fall of 2003, St. Joseph School began our 40th year as a Catholic school in the Diocese of Oakland. While the facilities and staff have changed over the years, the commitment to providing a faith-filled education to the children of our parish and surrounding areas has never wavered. With Christ as our teacher and leader, we have continued to practice and teach our Catholic history and traditions through our foundation in Religion, while preparing our students to meet the challenges of a modern society. St. Joseph School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Educational Association.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parents, as the primary educators of their children, are invited and encouraged to participate in the activities of the school. St. Joseph is blessed with committed and dedicated families who give generously of their time, talents, and treasures to enrich our school community. Each family is required to volunteer 35 hours of service each year.

STAFF
The current teaching staff includes 9 classroom teachers, 8 teacher’s aides, a Resource Specialist, and PE teacher. On a part-time schedule we have a Network Administrator, Technology Coordinator, Technology assistant, Art teacher, Music teacher, Reading Specialist, Librarian, Counselor, and two part-time Spanish teachers. Two co-directors and four assistants staff the Extended Care program. A principal, secretary, and part-time bookkeeper staff the office. There are two part-time custodians.

CLASS SIZE
Our current class size ranges from 34-36 students. There is a Teaching Assistant in each of the K-5 classrooms, and a shared assistant for the Middle School. The Reading Assistant for grades 1-3 allows for daily small group activities of 12 students for almost one hour. Our full-time Resource Teacher pulls students with special needs for small group work on a daily basis. These groups focus on phonemic awareness, reading, writing, and basic math skills.
