Spanish Curriculum

  • TK-Kindergarten:

    Your child will be introduced to: daily greetings, my name is . . ., the girl’s/ boy’s name is. . . , vocabulary for objects in the classroom, basic colors, numbers from 1-30, body parts, domestic animals, family members, the weather, months of the year, articles of clothing, games, stories, DVD's, CDs, books, picture books, songs, and seasonal activities.

    Grade 1:
    Your child will review: daily greetings, body parts, family members, vocabulary for objects in the classroom, weather, and articles of clothing, and domestic animals.

    Your child will be introduced to: Days of the week, months of the year,objects around the classroom, commands, questions, daily expressions for the Spanish verb ‘tener’ (to have), numbers from 30-60, secondary colors, months of the year and your child’s birthday. Much of this learning will be completed through fun games, hand puppets, flash cards, posters, DVD's, CDs, books, picture books, songs, coloring sheets, and seasonal activities.

    Grade 2:
    Your child will review: daily greetings, and classroom vocabulary, and the Spanish verb ‘tener’ (to have), days of the week, and months of the year.

    Your child will be introduced to: writing simple phrases, numbers from 60-100, body parts, school rooms, school personnel, expressions of emotions, basic telephone conversations, traffic safety, and modes of transportation. Much of this learning will be completed through fun games, hand puppets, flash cards, DVD's, CDs, books, picture books, posters, songs, coloring sheets, and seasonal activities.

    Grade 3:
    Your child will review: daily greetings, classroom vocabulary, numbers from 1-100, expressions with the Spanish verb ‘tener’ (to have), body parts, colors, days of the week, and articles of clothing.

    Your child will be introduced to: Bendición Antes de la Comida (Blessing Before Meals), the Spanish alphabet, how to write the days of the week and month, recognition of the year, basic sentences, names of destinations, objects in the home, numbers from 1-100, chores around the home, entertainment appliances and toys, , names of fruits and different foods, table settings, musical instruments, names of places in our community, names of zoo animals, summer activities. Much of this learning will be completed through fun games, flash cards, DVD's, books, picture books, posters, songs, coloring sheets, and seasonal activities.

    Grade 4:
    Your child will review daily greetings, the Spanish alphabet, classroom vocabulary, pronunciation and writing numbers, colors, days of the week, months of the year, names of animals, shapes, articles of clothing, consonants of the alphabet, names meal foods, names of utensils, musical instruments, and summer activities.

    Your child will be introduced to reading in Spanish, vocabulary for objects found in desks, plural nouns, talking about people, colors, animal names, describing objects and more than one object, completing sentences using week days and destinations, talking about peers, daily activities in school, adding and subtracting numbers, telephone numbers, numbers in the calendar, and after school activities. In addition, students continue to improve their writing skills by taking notes, answering questions and completing exercise sheets. They will have textbooks which are used in class and for homework assignments. Much of this learning will be completed through posters, songs, coloring sheets, DVD's, CD's, Spanish magazines, dances and seasonal activities. We will also explore Spanish culture by cooking and examining the differences in customs throughout Latin America.
