Welcome to the new school year at St. Joseph School.  I am the 7th grade Homeroom Teacher and Middle School Science teacher. I just started my 25th year teaching Middle School Science at Canterbury School in Richmond.  I teach at Canterbury Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and at St. Joseph all day Tuesday and Thursday this school year.  During the first two weeks of school, I will be implementing a study skill system called “SQ3R.” I would like to expose your children to an alternate way of studying.  SQ3R stands for SURVEY, QUESTION, READ, RECITE, AND REVIEW.  This will enable our students to be exposed to alternate forms of study skills at the Middle School level.  Upon reaching high school and college, they can make their own choice in which method they decide to study.  It is my experience that each student learns differently.  I would like to encourage them to become long-term “independent learners,” and let them decide in the future what type of system works best for them. In addition, I would like them to become great time managers by utilizing their student planners on a daily basis.  Consistent and persistent daily use of their planner will be another major step for their success in the future.
