Ms. Jenny Chua

Hi there! And welcome students, family, and everyone else in between to our Middle School Science site. My name is Jenny Chua, and I am so excited to be a part of the St. Joseph School community as the Middle School Science teacher.

I have a BA in Biology from Loyola Marymount University and am working on my Single Subject Credential in Secondary Science. I am a Berkeley native, having gone to Prospect Sierra School for elementary and middle school and Saint Mary’s College High School after that. While I have worked with a wide range of ages in summer camps and volunteer experiences, I have always gravitated towards working with middle and high schoolers, as I love the intellectual curiosity and fervor that is unique to this age group.

As a science educator, I hope to create an environment that is supportive, welcoming, and filled with inquiry. My best teachers were the ones that allowed us to not only make mistakes, but learn from them and encouraged us to always keep pursuing learning. I believe it is essential to teach science in a way that is engaging and connects students to each other, their communities, and the world in which we live. By incorporating the Scientific Model, students will systematically learn to organize both conceptual and knowledge in a streamlined and methodical manner.

I leave you with this quote that I stumbled across in undergrad that has stuck with me as I embark on my teaching journey: “Science education, at its heart, is about teaching students the methods they’ll use to understand the world around them.”
